A Note to my Wedding Couples...
Specializing in Wedding Photography is so much more than photography to me. It is communicating with my clients, getting to know you, and going above and beyond for you. Making sure your day is the most amazing day that you will forever remember, because it will be. I am not just a photographer, owner of a company that staffs others but someone who looks out for your best interest at heart. I want to spend the extra time in advance and get to know you and everything your heart desires for YOUR day. As photographers we will be by your side during the most important day of your life. With that in mind I personally will make sure it is as spectacular as you envision it to be.
Weddings are one the most enduring special times of our lives. They are nervous wonderful moments that are amazing and yet so fleeting. By the end of the night most couples will be trying to recap their event so that they can remember it for the years to come. This is where we as a company want to go above and beyond for you as your wedding photographer specialists. We will help create those memories for you. Capturing your looks to one another, tears, joy, embrace, and laughter. All of the little details that you took time and effort to have, all will be documented artistically and heartfelt. You will be photographed in the most loving light so your memories will forever be cherished. Whether you have one or three photographers at your event please know that all photographs are edited in-house so that all photographs from your day have the same style and look. Bright, clean and crisp with rich colors.
Besides being a photographer I am personally here for you whenever you might need extra help or suggestions. Weddings can be over whelming to plan, if you need any assistance with creating your timeline, knowing which vendors are the best, I am more than delighted to assist. Please feel free to call or email to arrange a meeting, online face-time or in person so that we can review your Wedding in greater detail. At the very bottom of this page I have helpful links to assist you in your Wedding day planning.
Why choose my company's services over a Big Box Store?
That's how I refer to Big company's who offer the all-in-one services for weddings. I have nothing against them, they are just a different type of service, kind of like a box of chocolates as Forest Gump would say. What will you get? Do you know their personality, or just a name and a few dozen image examples? I have worked for several in my career and know the issues that are negative which tend to arise when using them instead of photographers directly. They are mostly impersonal as clients do not communicate with the actual people who will be providing the service. If they do it will be a quick phone call to say that they are excited about your day. Use the Big box for services that are less important to you. We want to personally get to know you and know the fine details of your day.
Please ask yourself what matters to you when hiring a Photographer.
Who do you want around following you all day? Someone who has gotten to know you by months of communicating and finding out all the exact details of what you envision? Or someone who says hello and prints out a sheet with an informal shot list with a few addresses?
Do they know the many personal details of your wedding? For an example if there is a unpleasant family situation, do you want to talk about it on your day or have it already known so you can focus on your joy? For instance, Groom's parents are divorced and need to be photographed separately. Maybe there are personal sensitive things that you don't want others to know, such as you only favor the left side of your face. Or if there is weight sensitivity and you want to review sliming poses in advance. (That's me BTW, I hate my arms and chins! lol. There are tricks to loose 20lbs in camera and not add.)
Another big worry - Did they even get the correct shot list? Or a print out of your 50 saved Pinterest examples of what you want done? It's Doubtful. Extra attention takes just that, extra time and attention. There is a lot of aspects and importance of having a relationship with your photographer especially since there is so much more to it than just taking amazing photographs. Please consider this when booking any service that is extremely important to you.

Q & A with Cher Charest.
Why be a Wedding Photographer?!
To put it simply, I love seeing love. I still get weepy seeing vows devoted to one another. I remember how very special every single moment was to me at my wedding and this is why I know how extremely important it is to you both. The whole event is exciting as a photographer. Filled with emotions, thoughtfulness and love. There is never a dull moment at a Wedding, and this is why I love photographing them as much as I do. Besides working for myself, I also am an independent contract wedding photographer for five other wedding studios in Michigan and Florida. These companies do not have my prime dates nor my editing skills but still a good option for smaller bookings.
Are all the posted photos online shot by Cher Charest?
Absolutely! I only display the photos that I have personally taken. Please know that my associate photographers all photograph in my style preference and have guidelines for shooting at my weddings. When using an associate photographer as lead or as a second, all photos are edited and processed by my company Cher Charest Photography, LLC. This is to ensure quality and so that you have one unified look to your wedding photography. To uphold standards and the highest quality for my business, I only staff professionals.
What are the Benefits of Second Photographers?
A second photographer is another eye and location. They capture a second perspective to your wedding without the lead missing any B&G moments.
Getting Ready -
If your Groom is in a different location. A second photographer can go wherever he is - a different building or town even!
Pre-Reception Stills -
If the venue is ready, a second can photograph it perfect prior to guests arriving, while lead can do the B&G's First Look.
Ceremony -
One photographer focuses on the Bride while the second on the Groom and his emotions seeing her walk down the isle. Two angles.
Reception -
If a large space, or two levels to your venue or ceremony, a second can get a whole different perspective while lead stays with the B&G.
Cocktail Hour -
While you are getting your Bridal Party Photos done and second photographer can stay with your guests and capture their moments.
Night Shots -
If special effects are wanted that may require an assistant.
Will a Second Photographer Provide the same look and style like the photos on this website?
The answer is yes! All second and other lead photographers are carefully selected so that we work together as a team and not as individuals. Their photographs are guided by my requests for posing and photographing style. Once the wedding is over all photos taken are then processed and edited by my company so that you have one look. Not only will you have the same look and style but a proper flow to your timeline from your wedding as well. To up hold quality and professionalism I only hire and work with second shooters that are fellow professional wedding photographers that are current in the industry. There is a six hour minimum for second photographer service because their time is just as valuable as mine.
What Type of Photography Gear do I personally use?
Having back-up's of EVERYTHING is a must for any wedding photographer! During a wedding or a regular photoshoot I always bring two cameras with multiple lens. Simply because if one fails, I have another right in my hands. Plus I don't have to waste time changing lens when I already have two that produces different looks. I do change lens throughout the day or when needed in advance.
Camera's...
2 - Nikon D750's Body
1 - Nikon D7100 Body (Back-up for my back-up)
(Nice thing about professional camera's is that they have two memory cards in each. If one card fails, there is always a second that will have the photos shot. They are also extremely fast and produce amazing quality!)
Lens...
14-24 mm 2.8 ( Really Wide Angle, great to get the entire church while standing in front of it! )
24-70 mm 2.8 ( Perfect for reception where space can be tight, yet still has a zoom for nice portraits. )
70-200 mm 2.8 (Love this lens since I can capture up close details of your expressions while being in the back of the church! Nice Telephoto! )
90mm 1.8 ( My macro - perfect for ring shots or things you want to see enlarged perfectly. )
50mm 1.4 (Great for low light. )
Lighting...
4 Flashes for on camera use. ( 2 extra for back-up)
Off Camera Lighting. Wireless Strobe lights placed on stands to lighten a room or produce neat effects.
( Lighting is never a direct flash, unless intended. It is either covered with a soft box, umbrella or diffuser which is used to create a soft natural looking light.)
Do I treat all Weddings the same?
Not at all! Each couple and their day is special to me as if it was my Wedding day, and just as unique! When photographing, there is this invisible checklist in my head that I constantly review so no shot or situation is missed. ( There is also YOUR checklist too so I don't miss any of YOUR wanted shots, click this link for a photo checklist! ) I want to be able to capture everything and tell your day's story as it unfolds into the fairytale that you envision. This is why I feel that it is so important to capture all of the little details at are so easily missed and fleeting during your day. I plan to be your extra eyes so that your once in a lifetime will last forever in beautiful photographic memories.

Camera Shy?
It will be okay! I assure you, I can work with anyone. My goal is to make you feel natural and yourself in front of the camera. I think my huge smile can lighten anyones nerves. It is extremely important to me to communicate with you before photographing. Getting to know you, your personality and style is key to create photos that you will love. For children I always get to their eye level and ask them about their personal likes and what they do for fun. Once I can get them to start talking about their favorite pet or T.V. show they forget all about the camera. They usually smile too when taking about things they like, which makes great photos.
Will we discuss your photography goals in advance?
Always! I do a consultation prior to getting out my camera. Review anything that you may not want captured or features that you want hidden. Photographing the real you, moments that you whole dear between each other is what I search for when clicking my shutter. Taking the candid photo journalistic approach while still having you naturally pose is what I aim to create for breath taking photographs. Capturing the real you but with my professional guidance.
To me, the most important part when working with clients is to listen to you. To hear your requests, it is your day and everything that you want should be created. It is my job to guide you into what would make a great photo. Whether it is a location or pose, I will suggest things based on my experience and professional expertise to provide you with the best service and product. Asking your opinions at the photoshoot for your preferences, photo locations and reviewing special requests is also extremely important to create fantastic photos. I only want you to look your best, as your best is a true reflection of my work.
Will you show us how to Pose in our Photos?
Yes! For posing, "Mirror & Mock" is my approach to show you how to pose with each other. I do the pose and you mirror it. It can be a lot of fun and lighten any nerves since some people don't like being in front of a camera. I aim to bring out your best features and to pose you in the most flattering ways. I want you to love your photographs and to have fun creating them!
How do you handle a Large Wedding Party?
Even if you have a Wedding party of 30 people, they all will be directed into making beautiful photographs for you to remember. Simple directions like, everyone angle toward the couple, hands in pockets, flowers at your hip, now smile! We will also take photos in smaller groups too. The Bride will want to be with the bridesmaids. Groomsmen with the groom, and then of course all together. Depending the time given I will be arranging everyone differently so that you have multiple looks. I also try to work in some fun shots towards the end. It is always important to remind family and your wedding party when you will need them for your photos. For example, family formals will be taken right after the ceremony, please don't leave until we are finished.
Can we change our Wedding Date after we book?
When booking, your Wedding Date is taken off our books. It is very important to us to keep the date since it is removed from availability. Therefore we do not allow dates to be moved. Most peek season weekends are booked a year to year and a half in advance. The 50% deposit is non-refundable.
Can we change when our Photographer Services start and end time?
Yes you can change the lead photographer's timeline up to two weeks notice prior to your Wedding date. (Unless there is Travel scheduled) Your change must be made in writing and then confirmed by the company, otherwise it isn't a valid change. It also must be within the purchased Photography Package's time given. If more hours are needed, we can upgrade you to another package or the overtime rate of $175 an hour will be charged. Please notify us as soon as possible. Please know for Second Photographers, time changes must have a TWO MONTH notice. Also in writing and confirmed to be valid. More hours can be added if needed, please request in advance.
Now that I said all that, give me a call and we will chat about your day! 248. 882. 4247
I love hearing about LOVE! And it's always in the details! :)
Please inquire to check availability.
